March 17, 2020 — Closure Guide for Parents
March 17, 2020
Dear New Brunswick Public Schools Parents,
As part of our plan to maintain the continuity of teaching and learning, we have moved to our remote learning instruction plan.
Daily Instruction for Students
Grades K-2 - Students in grades K-2 were provided with printed assignments and these were sent home via backpacks. These activities are to be utilized by families to provide opportunities for learning from home. In the event that you need additional activities for your K-2 student, a supplemental At Home Learning Guide has been created for parents.
Grades 3-12 - All students in grades 3-12 were provided with Chromebooks with wifi access and will continue to use Google Classroom, a platform designed for online learning that is familiar to our students. Additionally, copies of work packets were sent home with High School students to supplement their online learning. All students are responsible to complete their assignments and will receive grades for their work.
Student Attendance
It is important that students complete all assigned work either in Google Classroom or in their packets, as this will be used to determine attendance during remote instruction. If a student is going to be absent for the day and unable to participate in online learning, please email your child’s teacher or call the main office of your child’s school and leave a message. If you need a computer for your student who is in grades 3-12 to complete eLearning, or if you need a copy of your student’s work, please contact the main office of the school your child attends before Wednesday, March 18th at 11:00 AM.
Learning from Home
Research from the Vanderbilt Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning shows that providing structure through a daily schedule allows children to feel secure and raises levels of engagement. Below you will find a suggested student schedule. Please remember that the routine and schedule may need to be adjusted over time as you better understand the learning expectations and how your child/children learn best. Additionally, refer to our district resource titled, “Activities Beyond Technology” in English and Spanish with ideas to enhance learning, fitness, and wellness at home.
