August 25, 2022 - Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year

August 25, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians and School Community,

It is with excitement that I welcome you back to a new school year! This is an exciting time for all of us - students, families, teachers, administrators, and staff alike - and we are focused on further improving the educational experience of all of our students through high-quality instruction and support.  The first day of school is Tuesday, September 6, 2022, and will be an early dismissal day for students as well as Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

In order to better support our students, we have increased the length of the school day by 20 minutes. Effective September 6, 2022, the school day will now begin 10 minutes earlier and end 10 minutes later than the previous school year. These changes are reflected in the tables below, which show the new start and end times for a full school day, early dismissal, and a delayed opening.

In an effort to tailor instruction sufficiently to the needs of our students and for teachers to be given more opportunities to differentiate instruction, the additional 20 instructional minutes will focus more on social-emotional learning activities, individualized instruction, core academic skills, and/or enrichment activities that allow students to actively participate in their learning.

Our classrooms are hubs of learning that require students to be active learners who participate during class and collaborate with each other. We encourage students to develop their own voice through active, in-class engagement.  We want our children to think critically and act independently, so they can take ownership of their personal and distinct learning paths.

Parents can assist at home, by regularly asking the following questions, “Why?,” “What if?,” “What could be done differently?” “Do you have a plan?,” and “What is your goal?”  In addition, it’s essential that our children attend school every day.  Students are more likely to succeed when they attend school consistently.  Also, as you speak to your children about school, here are a few recommendations:

  • Discuss the impact of social media on mental health and the need to limit its use.
  • Talk with your child, emphasizing that school is important and they need to do their best.
  • Each morning, try to ensure that your child is well-rested and has a meal.
  • Make sure both you and your child know how to reach out to the teacher, as needed, to ask questions.

We have an exceptionally enthusiastic, engaged, and committed school community here in New Brunswick, so I’m confident 2022-2023 will be another exceptional year.  Face masks are optional and we ask all parents/guardians to complete the Student Health Screening contract available online at https://forms.gle/rA9tV1TvEfqfUHuD6
