August 27, 2021 - Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year (Revised 9/2/2021)

Opening of School Message from the Superintendent

August 27, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians and School Community,

Welcome to the new school year! All of our students, teachers, staff and families deserve recognition for their perseverance during a remarkably difficult time. There is no doubt our students were able to successfully continue their educational journeys due to the tremendous support from the people who live with, care for, and teach them. As I prepare to open the doors to all our school buildings, please know that each of you are an inspiration to me.

Pandemic-related protocols will continue to be in effect in our buildings, including the need to wear masks and social distance. We all wish such precautions were no longer necessary, but, until we actually get there, let’s remember what we have already accomplished and how far we have come. This year we are looking forward to the following to support our students’ learning:

  • A full day in-person academic schedule
  • Opportunities for student support during our Extended School Program and evening Virtual Tutoring Program
  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) supports for students to maintain strong and supportive relationships, build resilience and coping skills, and develop the social and emotional assets that buffer against the negative effects of trauma and stress

In addition, the following is pertinent information to help prepare you and your child for the return to school:

I have no doubt unexpected challenges await us. However, our entire school community has demonstrated flexibility, adaptation, and bravery and I am confident 2021-2022 will be an outstanding school year for New Brunswick Public Schools.

Thank you,

Dr. Aubrey A. Johnson
