I’m delighted to update you further on our school district’s ongoing, proactive approach to water testing. On June 27 and 28, we conducted our latest round of testing on a total of 260 drinking water sources (water fountains, as well as kitchen/food prep equipment, ice machines, and sinks) in all of our schools. After evaluating our 2016 tests – and with input from school staff about additional locations that could potentially be used as potable water – we added additional sources to this year’s sampling.

The official results are extremely positive. Of these 260 sources, only the four listed below showed readings above acceptable limits. Each of these four sources were immediately removed from service and will be remediated as quickly as possible. Then, they’ll be re-tested and will not return to service until acceptable readings are recorded.

Our consistent attention to the district’s drinking water highlights our commitment to the health of our students and everyone else who consumes water in our schools. We will continue testing our water sources on an ongoing basis, despite state regulations requiring a testing only once every six years.

It’s also important to note that children are far more likely to come in contact with lead at home than they are at their school. If you have concerns, I recommend you discuss the risks of lead poisoning with your healthcare provider.
