Prepare. Empower. Inspire.
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
On behalf of the New Brunswick High School Staff and myself, I welcome you to the 2020-2021 School Year. The administration, faculty, and staff are excited about welcoming you back to a new school year that may be challenging but also filled with learning opportunities.
As you may know, all New Brunswick Public Schools are following a Virtual Learning and Teaching model for the first semester, marking periods 1 and 2.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2020. New Brunswick High School classes start promptly at 8:00 am, with the school day ending at 2:26 pm. September 8 and 9 are early dismissal days, which end at 12:56 pm. We are following a block schedule that is different from the schedule students were used to during the previous year. Please make sure to see the Early Dismissal Schedule and Regular Bell Schedule posted on the NBHS website.
Attendance is very important, especially during the high school years as it affects each student’s credit accrual. Teachers will be taking attendance at 8:00 am and during each virtual class. New Brunswick High School expects all students to attend their virtual classes every day, Monday through Friday, and to be punctual. If your child is not able to participate in his/her virtual classes due to illness, medical appointment, etc., please remember that you must report such absences to the Attendance Office by calling 732‑745‑5300, Extensions 3021 before 9:00 AM. Excessive absences or not attending classes will result in students losing credits for those classes.
Every student will need a district Chromebook in order to participate in his/her virtual classes. If your son/daughter needs a school Chromebook because they did not have one the past school year, or if they have one that needs repair, you should go the Device Depot at New Brunswick Middle School (1125 Livingston Avenue) every Tuesday or Thursday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, for a repair or replacement.
Parents/Guardians, we are pleased to have you as partners in your son’s or daughter’s education and more than ever. We need your support in making sure that your son or daughter participates in his or her virtual classes daily and completes all school assignments. I also encourage you to communicate regularly with your son’s or daughter’s teachers and Guidance Counselor to monitor his or her academic progress.
Students’ schedules will be available Friday, September 4th after 4:00 pm at the student/parent portal. Should you need assistance in accessing the portal or have any questions regarding your child’s schedule, please contact your child’s assigned Guidance Counselor directly. Also, Teachers will be contacting their students via their school emails to inform them of how to access their Google Classrooms.
