School nurses support the academic success of students by following the “School Health Services Model”. School nurses provide acute and emergency care, coordinate healthcare by communicating with students’ families, healthcare providers, teachers and community service providers, manage chronic diseases and provide family engagement.
School nurses provide healthcare in accordance to N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.1-2.5: assessment, planning, intervention, and follow-up for all K-12 students.
School nurses collaborate with all health services employees to ensure that all students receive medical and mental health services when needed.
