Parents: The Voice That Makes the Difference
One of the most important components of the New Brunswick Bilingual/ESL Program is parental involvement. Communication between families and schools is one of the goals of the New Brunswick Public Schools. It is recognized that parents are their children’s first teacher and their involvement in the education of their children is encouraged and supported.
- The Bilingual / Dual Language Parent Council holds 8 informational meetings for parents/guardians of students in the program: 4 meetings for parents of Bilingual students and 4 meetings for parents of Dual Language students.
- The purpose of these meetings is to inform parents about the Bilingual,ESL, and Dual Language Programs and to offer an opportunity for parents to communicate their concerns and to receive answers to their questions.
- Workshops address educational topics and strategies parents can use to support their children’s education such as:
- How to Help Children with Homework at Home
- Parents' Rights
- How to Use Technology
- Programs and Platforms Used by Students
- Learn about Community Offerings and Resources
- At the end of every session, parents are encouraged to voice their questions, concerns, and opinions.
