Welcome to Paul Robeson Community School For The Arts! Built-in 1982, the school was named in honor of African-American entertainer, activist, actor, and athlete Paul Leroy Robeson. Through our Arts integration activities and focus on academic rigor, Paul Robeson Community Theme School for the Arts is proud to offer a well rounded and rigorous academic program integrated with substantive arts activities allowing students to express themselves through the arts in a variety of forms.
Dear Paul Robeson School Students & Families:
We hope that this letter finds you well and in good health and that you enjoyed a fun filled and relaxing summer. This year is certainly unique, however our administrative, teaching, and secretarial staff have been working throughout the summer months to prepare for a successful return to school. While we are trying to enjoy the last days of summer, our thoughts are focused on the start of school. As we begin the year in a full virtual instructional model, our staff is committed to delivering the best possible instruction to their students.
They have worked extremely hard to strengthen their virtual teaching skills by participating in various professional development opportunities. We are honored to be part of a team composed of teachers and staff who want to achieve great things! They all share the same demanding work ethic, steadfast determination and commitment to serve the needs of all learners, both social-emotional and academic. We are looking forward to a great school year and are working hard to ensure that your child’s learning experience is a positive one.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8th. The school day will consist of various virtual learning activities based on the schedule previously shared and reposted here_Schedule_ We are anticipating a vigorous day and are hoping to have 100 percent attendance on our first day.
When thinking about your at home learning space, please understand that parts of the day will have a live component where the teacher will be teaching lessons to students virtually. All students are expected to attend these virtual learning sessions. Having students up and ready to learn in a dedicated and comfortable learning place will support learning at home.
The following bulleted points are some important reminders:
- Students are expected to engage academically for the full school day. Daily attendance will be taken and students will receive grades for completed assignments as per district policy 2624. Teachers will provide small breaks during classes as needed.
- School will begin with an extended homeroom period to provide time for morning meetings and social emotional learning activities for students.
- Students will participate in related arts classes such as arts, world language, physical education, STEAM and music.
Although we will be remote learning, we realize the importance of building a school community. One of the ways to do this is to continue our school-wide spirit days. In this mailing, you will find a list of those days for the upcoming school year. In addition, we are working to find other unique ways to bring our school community together while we are learning Virtually. More details will be shared in the near future regarding our efforts.

As educators, it is important that we understand the complexity of our reality and that of our students. It is important to allow open conversations with the understanding that black and brown students may experience and interpret issues differently.
