Welcome to the New Brunswick Public School Social Studies department.  In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." The mission of the social studies department is to assist students as they develop an increasingly complex understanding of themselves and the world around them through exposure to a variety of historical texts, primary source documents, and current events resources that are inclusive of the diverse perspectives and peoples of our society.   Our goal is for students to become civically engaged, globally aware, and socially responsible by learning about history, geography, civics, economics and social justice.

National History Day Competition

New Brunswick High School State Champions

National History Day is an event that challenges students to research an historical topic that they can delve into beyond what is found in their textbooks. This year’s theme is “Triumph and Tragedy”. Students from Paul Robeson Community School and New Brunswick High School participated in one of the the New Jersey Regional competitions  that was held at Monmouth University on March 23, 2019.
For the second consecutive year, students from New Brunswick High School  participated in the New Jersey State Finals that was held at William Paterson University on Saturday, May 4, 2019. The students  presented their research and documentary: “Hungary for Freedom: The Exodus of 1956”. In a highly contested field, the students were announced as the state winners and now have the opportunity to represent the state of New Jersey at the National Championships that will be held at the University of Maryland on June 9th - 13th, 2019. Congratulations to Ms. Yesenia Infante for leading the students that included Ashley Garcia, Bernice Rojas-Rivera, Michelle Ortiz Merino, and Sarahi Lopez.
