PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography I

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
2.5 Credits - 1 Semester
Prerequisite(s): None.
 
This course is designed for students to learn the aesthetics and practical knowledge of digital photography and photo editing.  They will examine the history of photography and reveal the evolution of the camera by creating various multimedia presentations.  They will learn how to create a digital workflow and file conversion through image enhancement, manipulation, and other creative techniques using updated software.  A digital portfolio will be required by each student when they complete this course.
 

Photography II

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
2.5 Credits - 1 Semester
Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Photography I.
 
This course is designed for advanced students in digital photography and photo editing.  Student will refine techniques learned in Photography I including: light techniques, backdrops, and different genres of subject matter.  Image enhancement, manipulation, and advanced Photoshop techniques will be explored.  A digital portfolio will be required by each student as they complete this course.

Graphic Design I

Grades: 10, 11, 12
2.5 Credits - 1 Semester
Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Visual Design or Photography I.
 
Student will begin with photo manipulation software and through a variety of exercises learn how to develop strong visuals for design purposes.  Technological skills will be emphasized during this phase and multiple effects that convey different messages will be used and discussed.  Use of page/document layout software will follow this stage as students learn how to use images and typography for effective communication of ideas.
As opportunities present themselves, students will engage in `real world' projects with the goal of acquiring printed materials.  All projects will be saved in a digital format for presentation and portfolio uses. 

Graphic Design II

Grades: 10, 11, 12
2.5 Credits - 1 Semester
Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Graphic Design I.
 
Graphic Design II is a semester course offering for students who have successfully completed Graphic Design I.  Practical design opportunities, using digital imaging, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign will be used to design and produce posters, advertising, logos, promotional materials and school/community based projects.
Strong desktop aesthetic sensibilities regarding the principles of design are required.
